Laguna Niguel | Brief History

Laguna Niguel, California: Planned Community in the Coastal Foothills

Laguna Niguel takes its name from Rancho Niguel, granted in 1842. It remained ranchland until the 1950s, when the Laguna Niguel Corporation began work on one of California’s first master-planned communities, with design centered around open space and family living.

Today, the city is known for its ridgeline views, parks, and planned neighborhoods. From the hilltop estates of Bear Brand to townhomes near Crown Valley Parkway, Laguna Niguel blends suburban serenity with coastal proximity.
