Mission Viejo, California: Master Planning at a Monumental Scale

Once part of Rancho Mission Viejo, the land that became Mission Viejo was developed in the 1960s by the Mission Viejo Company. Inspired by Spanish village design, it featured curving roads, consistent architecture, and a large man-made lake.

Incorporated in 1988, Mission Viejo is now one of the largest master-planned communities in the U.S. Known for its family-friendly neighborhoods, top schools, and parks, it set the standard for South Orange County suburban development.
