Its name reflects the man-made lakes that add scenic charm to the community.

Lake Forest | Recreation & Shopping

Lake Forest may be growing fast, but it still keeps a great outdoorsy soul. You’ll find parks everywhere—Serrano Creek, Pittsford Park, and the 86-acre Lake Forest Sports Park, which is loaded with athletic fields, skate zones, and community events.

Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park borders the city and offers rugged trails for mountain biking, hiking, or spotting deer in the early morning. The trails wind through canyons, shaded oak groves, and up to panoramic views of Saddleback Valley.

There are also two namesake lakes — with private memberships for boating, swimming, and tennis. Add in splash pads, local pools, and even a growing food-and-beer scene, and Lake Forest proves that you don’t have to choose between nature and neighborhood fun. You get both.

Lake Forest | Brief History

Lake Forest, California: Trees, Ranches, and Suburban Growth

Lake Forest traces its roots to Rancho Cañada de los Alisos, granted in 1842 and later home to dry-farming and cattle operations. It remained rural until the 1960s, when master-planned development brought homes, schools, and commercial centers to the area.

Incorporated in 1991, the city takes its name from its man-made lakes and a eucalyptus forest planted in the early 1900s. Today, Lake Forest is known for its diverse neighborhoods, business parks, and access to Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park.
